Tata Motors was pretty successful in stealing the entire Auto Expo 2012 event with its new small car, Tata Pixel. The Tata Pixel Concept car is cute, chic and trendy. The doors of the cars were major highlights here. 

The scissor doors could slide up high, thereby allowing the passenger to enter or exit the car even in the tightest of space. The new Tata Pixel is powered by 1.2 litre of turbocharged diesel engine along with ample of high tech features, which comprise of optimized aerodynamics drag, stop-start technology,

 and low-rolling resistance tires etc. Tata Pixel is so far just a concept therefore, the price of the car hasn’t been determined yet.

Chevrolet Spark 800

Chevrolet Spark 800 is a downsized version of Chevrolet Spark hatchback that was proposed to be launched by Chevrolet long back. Speculations of this small car were made back in 2008 but the development on Chevrolet Spark 800 has not seen its dawn till date. In 2010, General Motors India’s President Karl Slym confirmed that the launch of Chevrolet Spark 800 in India will happen in 2 year’s time frame, which means that it can launch this year. It was told that Spark 800 will be powered by an 800cc petrol engine. This is the same engine which powered the Daewoo Matiz (phased out). The 795cc, 6-valve unit will pump out 38KW and torque of 68.6 Nm@4600 rpm. The new Spark is expected to be priced around Rs 2.50 lakh. The new Chevrolet Spark 800cc engine with 3 cylinders is expected to be extra fuel efficient.

Mitsubishi Mirage

Mitsubishi, which has no hatchback in Indian market till date, is now mulling to bring in a hatch known as Mitsubishi Mirage. The Mirage is a new B-segment model developed for emerging markets. The Japanese car manufacturer, Mitsubishi had showcased the sketch of its global small car, at the 2011 Geneva Auto Expo and the small car has popped up at the Tokyo Motor Show in December, 2011. Mirage can head towards India and can arrive next year after being launched in Thailand in March, 2012 followed by the launch in Japan sometime during the mid 2012. At an expected price of Rs 5 lakh, Mirage could genuinely turn out to be a life-saver for Mitsubishi as hatchback sector occupies the major chunk of car sales in India.

Nissan Evalia

Nissan Evalia which was unveiled at the Auto Expo, 2012 will barge in the market by August, 2012, as confirmed by industry sources. Earlier the van was popular with the name Nissan NV200, however, the Japanese car manufacturer has christened it as Evalia now. Now Renault-Nissan plans to expand their vehicle-cum-engine manufacturing factory with a second production line at their Oragadam plant near Chennai. Since the manufacturing of Evalia will be localized at Nissan’s factory near Chennai, the company will be able to price it competitively near its arch rival-Innova. Nissan Evalia price will be no less than Rs lakh. Built on Nissan’s B-platform, the Evalia is a seven-seater with a 2+3+2 configuration and will also compete with upcoming Maruti Ertiga.

At the Auto Expo 2012, Renault India showcased its brand new and much anticipated SUV, Renault Duster, which received quite an amount of applause at the Expo. The Duster which will be manufactured in India with high local content and made available in both Petrol and diesel variants will open up a whole new segment in the Indian passenger car market with its comfortable seating, premium features, powerful and rugged performance combined with high fuel efficiency. The new Renault Duster will come with 1.5 litre of DCi engine that would churn out 110 PS of peak power and will be coupled with six-speed manual transmission in the beginning. An automatic gearbox can further make way in Duster that would enhance the overall driving experience for the owner. More than 4 metres in length, this compact SUV is luxurious and lavish in all ways and the exteriors make it look like a total stunner. This SUV will be launched in the month of April 2012 with an expected price tag of Rs. 9 lakh.

General Motors has introduced Chevrolet Orlando, concept MPV, at the Paris Motor Show, 2008; the production version of the MPV was showcased at the 2010 Paris Auto Show, reports say that it will commence sales in early 2011 while the Indian debut would be possible followed by European launch. The concept version was a seven seater affair and possessed crossover like built. The Orlando shares the same platform of Chevrolet Cruze.

If media reports are to be believed, the Chevrolet Orlando is supposed to replace Chevrolet Tavera. After discontinuing the Tavera in most of the BS III cities, there remains a void from Chevrolet side. The much-expected Chevrolet Orlando will be competing with the likes of Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and other India bound mini MPV like Maruti R3, Nissan NV200, Hyundai ic25 and Ford B-Max. This yet-to-be launched Chevrolet MPV would be loaded with a 1.8 litre petrol mill and a 2.0 litre diesel powertrain. The 1.8 litre petrol engine is expected to produce a top power of 141 bhp while the 2.0 litre diesel engine would churn out maximum power of 131 bhp via either a 4 speed automatic, 5 speed or 6 speed automatic gearboxes.

Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, the managing director of Nissan India, has hinted about the production of Nissan Roox but the launch is not expected in near future. Currently, Nissan India is doing a viability study to evaluate the most possible demand for a new car below the premium hatchback car, Nissan Micra. Since it will be targeted as a mass puller, Nissan Roox price in India would be kept competitive.

GM India has ultimately decided to satisfy the crowd this time with a 1.3 L diesel engine addition that too, not long from now. Hold your breath to hear the good news. The Chevy Sail will be launched not later than April this year by the looks of it with both the fuel options. Speculations are rife that Chevrolet Sail will replace Aveo U-Va small car by Chevrolet in India as the latter has not garnered much sales.Guess the price contest would be interesting until GM India makes the big announcement on Chevrolet Sail price.

29th-Nov-2011: Skoda Fabia hatchback has been in the picture from quite some time now in India, but now the car maker is giving a different shape to this hatchback and naming itSkoda Fabia Scout. The tough looking Fabia Scout is an off-roader version of Fabia hatchback with raised suspension for better ground clearance. However, the car is not a four wheel drive version as expected. Rumors are sharply pointing that Skoda Fabia Scout will be on show in the Delhi Auto Expo in Jan, 2012. Skoda Fabia Scout price can fall somewhere between Rs 6 lakh-Rs 7 lakh. The car has been caught testing around Skoda’s factory in Aurangabad and should be available with the same engine options as the standard Fabia.

22th-Oct-2011: Mahindra & Mahindra wants to dip all its fingers in butter. The hysteria about Mahindra XUV 500 has not even dimmed and company is making news with a host of upcoming vehicles. Mahindra Auto is foraying into the sub 4-meter cars range tooth and nail. The much awaited among them is the Mahindra Xylo Mini. The launch of Mahindra Xylo Mini is expected to take place during the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi.  Mahindra Xylo Mini is the compact SUV which is specifically a toned down version of the Mahindra Xylo in terms of dimensions and engine. The Xylo Mini is a 5-seater expected to come with a 1.1498 cc 3-cylinder CRDI engine from the range of Mahindra’s CRDI engines. Mahindra Xylo Mini will have the advantage of the low price in comparison to the premium hatchbacks and the sedans with the consumers looking for a small family car.

Tata Safari Storme

Tata Safari Storme SUV is likely to hit the Indian roads after April this year. Safari Storme codenamed earlier as Tata Merlin, was unveiled at the Auto Expo this year. Tata Safari Storme will ride on the Aria platform; however all the premium features of Tata Aria have not been passed on Storme due to the fear of cost escalation.  The SUV will use the same 2.2 liter DiCOR engine which churns out 140 Bhp and 315 Nm of top power and torque, respectively. The interior is all new with the use of fake wood inserts, new instrument clusters and upholstery. The wheels have not been revamped as the looks of Safari are its USP. Safari preserves its off road capabilities that are retained by the electronic shift on the fly and the 200mm ground clearance. Improved steering system with a radius of 5.4 meters makes the car an easier one to drive in the small and busy Indian roads.

Chevrolet Enjoy

 Chevrolet Enjoy MPV was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2012. The MPV has been tailored for local market conditions and would be priced at about Rs 7 lakh. Manufactured with the collaboration of it Chinese partner-SAIC, Chevrolet Enjoy which is better known as Hong Guang in China, will hit Indian market in second quarter of 2012. The car was shown at the Auto show with nameplate Chevrolet MPV and numerous tests will be done on the new car so that it comes out as perfect rival of Innova like Maruti Ertiga, Nissan Evalia etc. The seven seater-Chevrolet Enjoy will be suitable for those seeking style and space.

Maruti Ertiga Engine Power

The petrol variant of Maruti Ertiga comes with K series (K 14) 1.4 litre of petrol engine with a displacement of 1372cc, which keeps the ability to produce maximum power of 95 BHP at 6000 rpm with 130 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. To our surprise, the K 14 petrol engine is the largest version of K-series so far and because of being enormous, it will deliver better power and torque. 

The mini MPV will also be available in the diesel version, which will definitely bring a smile on the face of the Indian consumers. The diesel version of Maruti Ertiga will feature 1.3 litre of 1196cc of DDiS super turbo diesel motor. The engine is pretty analogous to Maruti SX4 sedan and will churn out 90 BHP of power at 4000 rpm along with 200 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. 

Variable Valve Timing in engine will help in continuous power generation guaranteeing maximum use of engine power.

Average And Fuel Economy of Maruti Ertiga

All the variants of this mini MPV will abide by the new generation BS-IV emission norms and all the credit goes to Maruti India’s new age exquisite K series engine, which is highly fuel efficient and will emit lower carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Maruti Ertiga will not disappoint customers in terms of mileage. The mileage of Maruti Ertiga, will impress its consumers in a single drive. Officials have cleared that the petrol variant of Maruti Ertiga will deliver the perfect mileage of 16.02 km per litre. 

On the other hand, the diesel variant of Maruti Ertiga will give an impressive mileage of 20.77 km per litre, which is pretty good for a MPV. However, we expect that these figures will be possible to achieve only on highways and the city mileage would be comparatively low. The variable valve timing (VVT) technology in the mill of the Ertiga will help to change the timing of the fuel intake for continuous power generation that ensures maximum use of engine power. In other words, the new technology guarantees maximum fuel consumption, engine performance and lesser emissions thereby increasing acceleration.
